Naga Sadhus
represent one of Hinduism's most mystical and ancient spiritual traditions -
warrior monks who have renounced all worldly possessions, including clothing,
in their pursuit of moksha (spiritual liberation). Covered in sacred ash
(bhasma) and adorned with jatas (matted locks) that can grow for decades, these
ascetics embody a profound commitment to spiritual enlightenment that few can
comprehend.
During Mahakumbh-2025, I had the rare privilege of
meeting and photographing these elusive holy men who normally live in remote
Himalayan caves and forests. Approaching them with deep respect, I spent time
understanding their practices before requesting permission to capture their
portraits.
This particular sadhu's intense gaze and weathered
features tell stories of years spent in meditation and devotion - a living
connection to India's timeless spiritual heritage. Being able to document these
sacred souls feels like preserving a piece of our ancient culture that's rarely
seen by the outside world.
